How did you decide on your major?
I chose to major in exercise science because I enjoy learning about biology, specifically the physiological systems. Along with that, I like how exercise science showcases not only biology but also how physical activity is a vital part of life and function. I also knew that this major would allow me to learn more about physical therapy and rehabilitation, two fields in which I take an interest.
What is it about your chosen field (and the department) that appeals to you?
My field of choice is Physical Therapy. Physical Therapy appeals to me because I enjoy helping others and making a positive impact on their lives, which Physical Therapy allows for both. In addition, my major in exercise science falls under the Kinesiology and Health Department, specifically, I am a part of the DPT 4+3 Concentration. The Kinesiology and Health Department appeals to me because it has a variety of courses that allow me to explore my interests, and it creates a welcoming environment for students. Also, being in the Rutgers 4+3 concentration has allowed me to connect with my peers, receive mentoring, and network with those already in the Physical Therapy field. Each of these factors is helping me grow and learn more about my passion of helping others.
Do you have a favorite class/professor within your major?
I have two favorite classes within my major, including Introduction to Physical Therapy, taught by Dr. Nagle, and Functional Human Anatomy Lab with Professor Rudy Mukherjee. These are two courses that are impactful in terms of both class material and life lessons.
What are your favorite academic experiences outside of your major?
One of my favorite academic experiences outside of the exercise science major has been ODASIS. ODASIS is a Rutgers organization that allows students, including minorities and first- generation students interested in the sciences, to excel in their classes and prepare for their future. They do this by providing tutoring, mentoring, and networking for students.
What are your other Rutgers activities?
I am involved in the Rutgers Physical Therapy club, where we work to create a collaborative and insightful environment for students interested in Physical Therapy. I have also been a part of RHA students can voice their opinions on life on campus and create a fun, safe, and smooth environment for students who live on campus.
What are your plans following graduation?
My plans following graduation are to attend Rutgers' Physical Therapy graduate program. As well as expand my knowledge in the field of rehabilitation, and explore the world to see the endless possibilities.
