What is the Pre-PT Concentration?

Upon acceptance into the 4+3 program, students are enrolled in the Pre-PT Concentration within the Exercise Science major. This specialized track is designed to prepare students for application to the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program and enables them to apply to Rutgers’ DPT program one year early. Students remain in the Pre-PT Concentration through the fall of their third year, at which point they may be admitted into the graduate program. The concentration offers valuable opportunities, including seminars, career development workshops, and volunteer experiences, all tailored to support aspiring physical therapists.

Who is eligible to apply for this concentration?

Students who:

  1. Must maintain a minimum of 3.3 GPA during First Year Fall Semester at Rutgers University
    1. *Can have no more than one C in any course
    2. *If a grade of C is received, that course must be retaken by the time of application into the DPT 4+3 Program, and a letter grade of B or higher needs to be achieved in that course.
  2. Complete a minimum of 25 volunteer hours under a licensed Physical Therapist.
  3. Must have completed the following courses at Rutgers University in Fall First Year
    1. 01:119:115 General Biology
    2. 01:377:140 Foundations of Kinesiology and Health

How to apply to Rutgers PRE-PT Concentration

Step 1
Declare major in Exercise Science by Spring first-year:
Step 3
Applications will be reviewed and exceptional students will be invited for an interview
Step 2
Email Dr. Nagle for access to the Pre-PT Concentration Application.    The Application will open on February 1st and close on March 10th.  In the email, state the date of the declaration meeting you have attended or plan to attend.
Step 4
Selected students will be accepted into the Pre-PT concentration
